“How are you even doing that?” Gary whispers to Derek while we attempt what the hot yoga instructor referred to as the Camel Pose.
Gary is on his mat between Derek and me. We’re on our knees, only in our gym shorts, as we lean back to simulate the yoga position along with the class of about thirty. Steam fills the room.
With my back arched, my chest pointing to the ceiling, I tilt my head up to check out my pose in the mirrored wall. I notice Gary’s abs are looking fierce. He’s always been a cute guy, but ever since he started seeing his boyfriend, Travis, a few months ago, he isn’t ashamed of having a good body and working it. He also has a sparkle in his eyes, even as he struggles to arch back further to mimic the position Derek’s twinky body doesn’t have an issue getting into.
“Derek, do you even have bones?” Gary says as his body trembles from his efforts.
“Is this hard?” Derek asks with a wink before he stretches even more. He tosses his head back, his long blond bangs dripping with sweat that falls onto his mat.
I can only imagine how Derek works these moves in the bedroom. I wouldn’t know because I’ve never had sex with him or Gary. They’re my buddies, and attractive as they both are, I wouldn’t fuck around with them. Not at the risk of losing what we share as friends.
I wasn’t planning on coming to hot yoga tonight. We’d scheduled a guys’ night to chat about my breakup with my boyfriend of three years. But Derek was into the instructor of the class, and he’d already signed up for it before we agreed on when we’d meet. He encouraged us to come here before hanging out to discuss the details of my breakup—something I wasn’t excited about doing anyway. In fact, this is a lot more fun than having to think about the drama and the stress…the pain of how it all came to an end. Plus, the instructor, a six-foot-something guy with an eight-pack, has been a lovely distraction from the post-breakup drama.
Gary glances between us like he’s trying to figure out what he’s doing wrong with his Camel Pose.
“We’re not as flexible as Rubber Boy over there,” I tell him.
Derek turns to the guy on the other side of him—a tower of a man, his body stacked with muscles. He’s got a nice chest of trimmed hair. Kind of a daddy look to him. He’s the sort of guy I figure could toss Derek around the way he needs to be tossed around.
I hear a growl, and it takes me a second to realize it’s Derek.
“Seriously?” Gary mutters. He’s trying to be quiet, but considering the only noise in the room comes from the soothing music beside the yoga instructor’s mat, a few glances s
hoot our way. Even the instructor looks over, a tense expression on his face like he’s about to say something.
But then his gaze meets mine and his expression shifts to one of interest.
My dick expands in my shorts.
This pose isn’t going to hide anything either. Although, it wouldn’t be terrible if he noticed. I need a good fuck right now.
Desperately.
When class finishes up, Gary, Derek, and I hit the showers. The yoga class is hosted at the Flex gym where we have memberships, so it’s familiar territory for all of us, especially since one of the few times we can manage to meet up is for workouts. After our showers, we regroup in the locker room. I change into my street clothes—a tank and jeans. Gary gets dressed beside me while I pull my glasses out of the case and put them on. I turn to the mirror on the wall opposite the lockers and fix my dark hair so it waves across my head the way I like it. A drop of water runs through the cleft in my chin, and I wipe it off quickly before Derek approaches, bare-ass naked. He leans against his locker, striking a pose.
I can tell it’s for the guy he was growling at in the yoga studio, who changes at a locker on the other side of the room, his gaze continually drifting to Derek’s ass. Derek reaches out to me and runs the back of his forefinger through my scruff, which isn’t very long—maybe a quarter of an inch. “A lot of Midtown boys are gonna be eager to feel that against their itty-bitty holes,” he teases.
“You’re disgusting.”
He keeps stroking his finger through my facial hair, and it starts to make me uneasy when he says, “Just shut up and look at me like you’re interested so he gets jelly.”
Oh, clever little ass. Now I realize what he’s doing, and considering how much the daddy behind him is glancing over at us, it’s clearly working.
Gary slides between us. “So, you’re seeing Cody tomorrow night about a new place?” he asks me as he throws on his shirt and runs his hand through his short brown hair, still damp from the shower.
I’ve been on the hunt for a new place since I broke up with Lance. I’ve had a few leads, but nothing’s panned out. I texted with Cody, the guy whose number Gary gave me, but we’ve had trouble finding time to meet because of our work schedules.
“I don’t even know how you can stand living with your mom right now,” Derek says. “How do you trick out?”
I chuckle. “That’d totally be the only thing you’d be worried about.”
“I guess you can always hook up at their place…or in a car…or…”
“We get it,” Gary says. “You’ll fuck anything, anywhere, anyplace. Hayden, back to Cody, I think it’ll work out.”
“I hope it does. Five hundred is a steal at Metropolis or anywhere I’ve looked. Waiting tables isn’t exactly gonna get me a condo like we had because of Lance’s sales gig. But this Cody guy, you say he’s cool?”
“You have to know him. He hangs around with Travis all the time.”
“And when do I see either of you anymore?”
“Yeah,” Derek chimes in. “That honeymoon period was a little quiet.”
“Not all that quiet, actually,” Gary quips.
“Oh my God. I hate you both and your fucking hotass sex.”
“It’s not hotass, Derek,” I correct. “It’s Superass.” It’s Travis’s nickname for Gary, one he should be proud of.
“Hayden, shut up,” Gary says, but I see the confidence in his eyes. “And it’s not all my fault we haven’t seen you. You haven’t exactly been easy to get together with considering all the night shifts you picked up at work.”
“With Lance being gone for work so much, I figured I could use that time to make some spare cash, and now that our relationship is down the toilet, I’m glad I did. I’m gonna need it.”
“Right? Good timing, I guess. I mean, I don’t mean that like—”
“I know, Gare. Don’t sweat it.” I run my hand through his hair, messing it up quickly.
“Goddammit!” He pushes my hand away and turns to the mirror to fix it again. “Cody’s cool, though. I’ve only known him for a little while, but he’s a good guy.”
“Travis clearly has an eye for good guys,” I say, winking at him in the mirror.
Derek makes a gagging sound. “ ’Scuse me while I vomit.”
The hottie daddy he’s posing for, fully clothed, puts the strap of his duffle bag over his shoulder and passes us.
Derek turns to him and makes an unusually loud yelping sound.
We both glance at him, totally thrown.
“What?” he asks.
Gary looks around the room as if he’s totally lost. “What just happened?”
I glance over my shoulder to catch the guy’s reaction, and he looks back at Derek, his eyes filled with lust.
Derek cocks a brow. “He clearly didn’t mind.”
“Then why aren’t you making a move?” I ask.
“Because I already found him on Scruff. I’m not an amateur. Just playing the game.”
“What about your hottie instructor? Isn’t that the reason we came here tonight?”
“I can’t get him. He’s impossible.”
“Impossible?”
“Yeah. I’ve done everything short of throwing my ass up in front of him.”
“I’m sure you can work it.”
“Oh, really? Why don’t you try and show me how easy it is to work it with him?”
A competitive impulse rises within me. I can’t tell if it’s just because Derek doesn’t think I can or if it’s because of the dry spell I’ve been in. I’ve been broken up with Lance for a week, and I wish I could say I’ve only been without sex for that long.
“You’re on.”
Gary eyes me like he doesn’t believe I’ll follow through with it, but as soon as we head out of the locker rooms, I lead the way back to the studio. Not even sure he’ll still be there, but I see him through the glass walls of the room, sitting at a small desk in the corner, typing on a laptop.
Gary tries to discourage me, but I hardly hear him as I push the door open and enter the room.
The guy looks up, the same interest in his eyes as when we caught each other’s gazes during the yoga session.
I’ll show Derek. I may have been in a relationship for three years, but I still got game.
“Hey, man.” I flash most flirtatious, unassuming smile. “Sorry. I don’t mean to bother you.”
“Not bothering me at all.” He rises from his chair.
“Do you mind if I ask you about that one move? Can’t remember the name of it.”
I get on my knees and bend back, imitating the Camel Pose—the most sexual of the positions we did.
“Oh, the Ustrasana?” he asks. “Or I guess I should’ve said Camel Pose because no one else understands when I say Ustrasana.”
“That’s a sexy name for it, though.” I give him a seductive look, one I can tell he appreciates as he bites his lip.
He offers a few instructions, and I don’t let up my eye contact. Soon, he’s kneeling beside me, his hand pressed on my firm abs as he pushes me back a little farther.
“Oh, yeah,” I say. “That feels good. Real good.”
I can tell by the look in his eyes that he’d love to take me back to his place and fuck the hell out of me, but what’s really doing it for me is the thought of snatching that condom from him and showing him who’s boss.
I glance back and through the glass, see Derek, his mouth hanging open while Gary laughs into Derek’s shoulder.
I chat up the guy, whose name turns out to be Roger, and I work a number out of him before I head back out to my buddies.
“I apologize for underestimating you, Obi Wan Cum-obi,” Derek says as I approach them.
They tease me about my pickup skills as we head through the parking lot. We get into our separate cars and drive to Metropolis, meeting at Derek’s place for our guys’ night. As much fun as we’ve had tonight, I know things are about to get serious. I’m not eager to talk about the bre
akup for so many reasons, but I need my friends right now. We drink Chardonnay as we sit on the couch in Derek’s living room, chatting a little about me and Lance before I get to one of the most serious parts of our breakup. “Toward the end there, he wasn’t even attracted to me. Like sexually. We went a long stretch where he didn’t even want to have sex. I don’t even think he could look at me like a sex object anymore.”
“Like how long?” Gary asks. “You guys have been broken up for like a week?”
“A long time. He couldn’t even get it up with me. I did everything. Costumes. Porn. I mean, he could’ve done whatever he wanted, but he couldn’t get it hard around me anymore.”
Derek stares at me blankly.
Gary notices and gently punches him in the arm. “Stop it.”
“Like how long?” Derek asks.
God, this is the fucking embarrassing part.
“Six months,” I confess. I don’t have a reason to lie to either of them.
“Why didn’t you ever say anything?” Gary asks.
I feel bad that I never told them, especially considering they’ve both shared so much with me.
“It was embarrassing,” I confess. “I’ve never had problems in that area until I was with Lance. You know, he was…weird about sex stuff in general. Like when we did that strip-off for the fundraiser last year. Remember how he got afterward? He wasn’t very big on experimenting or trying new things. Vanilla as fuck, and then the fact that he was jealous over every little thing didn’t make it any easier. He said he had to go because he clearly couldn’t satisfy me sexually and because he thought I was a whore.”
“He said whore?” Derek asks.
“A few times, actually.”
“I’m so sorry, Hayden,” Gary adds.
“Well,” Derek says, “now you should show him just how much fun you can have, starting with that hot-piece-of-ass yoga instructor. You guys can work on the Camel Pose all night long. And we can totally get numbers like crazy at the Halloween party next week.”
“Oh, God.” Gary’s tone suggests just how much he’s dreading it.
“You haven’t even told us what we’re wearing yet,” I say.
“Because it’s a surprise.”
